Sixty seconds, one minute – in so many cases that is all it takes to make a significant impact on a situation.
Let’s take for instance giving praise. You catch an employee doing something right – in less than a minute, you tell them how great their work is and the impact it has on customers and the business. How far does this sixty seconds go….well, the positive behavior is reinforced and more likely to happen again and the employee begins to understand their value to the organization.
Let’s look at using sixty seconds for course correction. One of your vendors has failed to deliver as expected, you take sixty seconds – find the source of the issue, deliver the feedback, and get back on track. By giving appropriate and timely feedback you don’t prolong the issue, you can prevent similar issues later on, and you have reinforced the communication channel with a business partner.
Next we look at taking sixty seconds for goal setting. At the beginning of the day you take one minute to write down your top goal for the day. Get focused on what’s important, set yourself up for success and accomplish even more than ever before. By writing down your goals each day, you are eight times more likely to achieve them.
Seize the moment, take the minute and use it to improve, focus, or drive things forward. It only takes a minute to have a lasting impact. The minutes you use now will save you many hours later on.
